Although lockdown has been a little boring at times, it hasn’t been too bad for new music! Artists of all genres, from rappers like Da Baby to K-pop mega-group BTS, have blessed their fans with brand new albums (as well as music videos and TikTok trends). This has helped to keep their fans entertained and dancing through the quarantine season.

Da Baby – “Blame it on Baby”

Main Single: Find My Way

Most Popular: ROCKSTAR (Feat.Roddy Rich)

It is clear why Da Baby has become so popular in recent months. The release of his newest album, ‘Blame it on Baby’, has not only satisfied his die-hard fans with his new flow, but has attracted a lot of new fans through it’s popularity on social media. The most popular single, ‘ROCKSTAR’, has attracted a lot of attention, with dances performed by TikTok stars such as Addison Rae. This has not only created a buzz around the song, but has also allowed fans to get creative whilst listening. Although there are a few songs that I believe will hold a high place in the charts, some of the songs have similar flows.  Over time these became a little boring to listen to and I found myself rotating between the same three songs.

Harry Styles – “Fine Line”

Main Single: Lights Up

Most Popular: Adore You

This past One Direction member released his most recent album in December 2019 and 5 months later it has yet to become boring! With a total of 12 pop-rock styled songs, Harry’s single ‘Lights Up’ was released two months before the album and held its place at number 3 on the UK’s Offical Singles Chart for a number of weeks. Remaining at the top of his most popular songs list on Spotify, ‘Adore You’ has proven to be one of Styles’ most listened to and loved singles that he has ever released. With it’s rock-pop funk vibe, it’s easy to see why listeners and fans have got it on repeat.

BTS – ‘Map of the Soul:7’

Main Single / Most Popular: ON (Feat. Sia)

The K-Pop megastars burst back onto the music scene after a brief break from the music industry, and boy, they did not disappoint. A.R.M.Y (BTS die-hard fans) were delighted to see their favourite boy band back in business with their official music video for their single ‘ON’, featuring Sia. Fans were spoilt for choice after receiving 5 music videos for the album, just weeks before release, as well as a Behind The Scenes photoshoot exclusive, which features the Record Labels’ other boy band TXT.  With a total of 15 songs on the new album and 7 original solo’s, the album gave the fans the opportunity to get to know the individuals’ writing style and music taste. As well as this, there were already 5 songs that were featured on their 2019 Album, Map of the Soul, where the band paid homage to their beginning, with ‘We Are Bulletproof: the Eternal’. There are only really 5 new songs amongst the 15 that really stood out to me. As a fan of the group I was left a little underwhelmed and am looking forward to the next album, in hopes that it’s a little bit more exciting than this one, with a music style that likens to their past releases.

The Weeknd – ‘After Hours’

Main Single: Heartless

Most Popular: Blinding Lights

Usually I’m a fan of The Weeknd’s weird and wonderful style in quirky music. However, this album just didn’t do it for me. I found every song to be too similar and struggled to engage in listening for longer than three songs. The infectious melody of ‘Blinding Lights’ has been plastered across social media platforms such as Tik Tok, gaining so much attraction that it has pushed the song to the top of The Weeknd’s Spotify page and overtaking the other featured singles on the ‘After Hours’ album. Despite struggling to see the fuss and hype surrounding his new album, I only enjoyed three songs: ‘Heartless’,’Blinding Lights’ and ‘In Your Eyes’. Again, I was left extremely underwhelmed by the new release.

Overall album rating: 4/10
