BLONDIE’S KITCHEN DUO ARE TWO SMART COOKIES
Blondie’s Kitchen, which was founded by blonde duo Kristelle Levy and Chelsie Collins in 2016, are the UK’s first and only Milk & Cookie Bar. Inspired by a trip they took to New York, they noticed a gap in the UK market for these American-style cookies. In this Q&A we asked Blondie’s Kitchen about what it takes to create a successful start-up business. Here’s what they had to say…
Tell us about your business?
We are the UK’s first and only Milk & Cookie Bar! We bake fresh daily, serve raw edible dough, and everything cookie you could imagine. Mince pie cookie cups, cookie pizzas, yes you heard it here first! We bottle our own cereal milk which tastes like the end of a bowl and our aim is to bring smiles to peoples faces with one bite or sip.
What was the driving force for you to start your business?
Our driving force was our love of eating and feeding! Not all super hero’s wear capes, some wear aprons ☺
What are your business’ core values?
Our core values are to make people happy from within, to bring back childhood memories and serve with a smile, always.
How do you overcome setbacks?
Setbacks are the only way to learn. We learnt this the hard way but have learnt over time, to actually take the most out of messing up. You can make a mistake once, but it’s learning how not to make it again that really matters. Pick yourself up and keep going, if you believe in what you’re doing, you’ll make more from your errors than you do your successes.
If you had one piece of advice for students setting out their own business, what would it be?
Our one piece of advice would be to give it everything you’ve got and take advice from every person in the industry your going into. Listen, learn and be adaptable. Just because your original idea may change along the way, doesn’t mean it’s not your idea anymore, it means you’re evolving your brand or idea and that’s only a positive thing.
Are there any other brands outside your sector that you are following at the moment?
We follow lots of brands outside of our sector to help us think outside the box! Anything creative or successful helps us understand how to move forward in different ways. For example, looking at the evolvement of eco friendly packaging businesses has made us look at how we package, how we grow in a better way for the environment, not just for our P&L at the end of every month.
What has your biggest achievement been so far?
Our biggest achievement so far has definitely been securing a permanent concession in Selfridges, the best department store in the world. After being their most successful pop up in the history of the food hall, we launched permanently in September 2017 and haven’t looked back. We recently opened a second flagship in their Selfridges Birmingham store too. We are always grateful to be among some of the best producers in the world.
