It’s the most wonderful time of the year, right? It’s even more wonderful when it’s spent in Cardiff. Unwrap those candy canes to get your sugar fix, because you’re going to need it with this whirlwind of festive shopping activities.

Whether you’re being a Secret Santa or shopping for that someone special under the mistletoe – Cardiff is the go-to winter wonderland to tick everyone off that nice list!

Christmas Markets

You can’t feel festive until you’ve had a walk around the Christmas markets with a cosy hot chocolate in hand to wash down all of that festive food. So it’s about time you get a jingle-bell on over to the Christmas markets! Cardiff’s Christmas markets are located on St John Street, Working Street, Hills Street, the Hayes, and Trinity Street.

Watch the baubles glisten from rows of Christmas trees as you wander your way in and out of the various huts selling everything and anything to put a Christmas smile on your loved ones’ faces. Whether you’re looking for a cute, personalised gift, a novelty present, or something from the heart – Cardiff’s Christmas markets have it all.

This mini Lapland is well worth a visit for a Christmassy weekend to remember in Cardiff. You’d be a humbug to miss out on the bustling festivities of these markets.

An Alternative Yuletide

Now, just because it’s Christmas it doesn’t mean you have to bury yourself in snow and tinsel – although, it would be merry nice if you did. The Bone Yard, not far from the picturesque Bute Park, is the perfect alternative option for Christmas shopping. We’re not saying you’re going to escape the jingle bells, but let’s just say it’s more of a hipster Christmas vibe (we can’t promise avocado baubles though).

Occupied by 12 large shipping containers, this bohemian community is run by artists, creatives, and makers, all of whom have something trendy to add to your Christmas list. You can shop every Saturday at the Bone Yard – its individuality is something even the Grinch-iest shopper can’t ruin.

City of Arcades

Fancy a walk under the stars, but aren’t a fan of the cold air? Welcome to Cardiff’s Victorian Arcades! Wander through the historic buildings whilst the Christmas lights twinkle above you, the smell of mulled wine follows you everywhere, and you’re starting to wonder when Buddy the Elf is going to come around the corner.

Weave in and out of the independent businesses the way tinsel does on Christmas trees. Full of buzz all year round, the Victorian Arcades really come alive at Christmas time. Take advantage of festive offers and discounts and get those Christmas gifts in the bag and under the tree.

Winter Wonderland

Grab your skates because you’ll be soaring along the ice rinks at Cardiff’s Winter Wonderland. Filled to the brim with fun and festivities, on every corner you’ll be greeted by beautiful Christmas lights, funfair rides, and of course – tasty festive treats.

Carol singers will guide you around the winter wonderland (and you can expect to hear the likes of Mariah Carey telling you exactly what they want for Christmas). You can pick up merry little trinkets for all the family in this snow globe of fun!

Merry Mainstream Day

You can’t finish your weekend off without taking a trip to St David’s! Full to the brim of shops, bars, and restaurants – this shopping mall will have a present for everyone and anyone you can think of. Be careful though, looking up may distract from your shopping trip, because the the stunning Christmas decorations that adorn the shopping centre’s ceilings are just that lovely.

Take your time as you carefully select presents for whoever’s on your list (naughty or nice, we don’t judge) and take advantage of the late Christmas opening times.
