5 TOP TIPS IF YOU’RE JOINING SWANSEA UNI THIS SEPTEMBER
WILL YOU BE JOINING SWANSEA UNI THIS SEPTEMBER? IF SO, HERE ARE 5 AMAZING TIPS FROM A CURRENT STUDENT FOR YOU TO CONSIDER…
1. JOIN SOCIETIES
Join all the societies you’re interested in whether you have experience or not! It’s a great way to meet fellow students that aren’t on your course and taking on leadership roles within a society will look great on your CV!
2. LEARN TO MANAGE YOUR TIME
All the work can get overwhelming so it’s a good idea to make plans and schedule when you want to work. Break it down into parts and remember to allow time for breaks, keeping a diary and taking notes will help you keep on top of everything.
3. MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR BEAUTIFUL LOCATION
Both campuses are right next to the beach! Walking and exercising on the beach is not only fun but it’s also great for mental health – some crazy people like to go for 7AM! We’re also close to the mumbles, the Gower and other beautiful places so it’s well worth exploring and visiting.
4. TRY VOLUNTEERING
Swansea University have their own student led volunteering service called Discovery SVS – there are SO many different projects they run from litter picks, supporting fellow students to helping vulnerable people within the community and teaching English to refugees! There are also no commitment pressures, you can do one-off volunteering or work as long as you want to!
Volunteering is so rewarding, makes your CV stand out from others and the hours you log get entered to a HEAR award from the University on top of your studies!
5. MAKE THE MOST OF OUR INCREDIBLE EMPLOYABILITY TEAM
We’re very lucky in the School of Management to have such a supportive team to make us as employable as possible when we graduate. I really recommend taking the employability module whether you’re thinking of doing a placement year or not – it’s only a 5-week module where you get taken step by step through CV & cover letter writing, LinkedIn designing, networking events and the chance to have a real mock job interview with someone from a company – I had a manager from TATA Steel!
Also, keep an eye out for extra opportunities they will regularly email you, there are extra events constantly and seminars for all different areas of interest that can be a great way to network and improve your skills.
